Big blow from Storm Desmond - 5th December 2015. Rivers Caldew and Roe in full flood

  The Aftermath on the Caldew

The following pictures were taken on Saturday 6th December 2015, when the rain was torrential and the river Caldew was rising fast. The bridges shown are the White Bridge in Dalston and Rose Bridge near Rose Castle. Othere pictures show the water charging past Dalston Cemetery and the River Roe being contained in Stockdalewath.

More Dalston pictures showing the Caldew at various places on Sunday 6th December after the level had dropped by perhaps as much as three feet. Happily all the work which had been done in Stockdalewath in 2015 paid off and no houses were flooded, although work had to be done to pump out some areas where water had become trapped behind a storm wall.

Down river, Carlisle has been hit very hard, probably worse than the last time 11 years ago. Many, many volunteers and professionals worked tirelessly to help those that once again needed rescue from their homes.
